After having spent 2 years in Formula Ford and having achieved good results with John Booth’s Manor Motorsport Team, which grew into also becoming a Formula 1 Team. They strongly wanted me to compete in the British Formula Renault Championship; Formula Renault was a more complex car than the Formula Ford, having slicks with wider tires, a more powerful engine and aerodynamics with front and rear wings.
The Team’s choice was to run with the Van Diemen chassis and the Solus Racing Engines engine, unfortunately this choice proved to be a disadvantage. In fact, in the same year, an Italian race car manufacturer (Tatuus) dominated the European racing having clear technical superiority over all other manufacturers.
Although being disadvantaged I had managed to still achieve good results taking the car as far ahead as possible with numerous podiums and top ten placing, waiting for the end of the season and planning for the next year.
