Running again in the British Formula Ford Championship with the Olympic Motorsport Team was the right choice considering the improvement had in 1994, deciding however to change the chassis and engine, now running with the Vector and using the Solus Racing Engine.

The preparation phase for the Championship, unlike the previous year, was not satisfactory at all because the Vector manufacturer was slow to deliver the cars. Therefore, as soon as we received the cars and assembled in the workshop, we went directly to the track for the first race at Donington Park.

We only had time for few laps of testing with the new car followed by the qualifying session. I still remember the preparation phase for my launched lap, I had my helmet visor slightly opened to keep it from tarnishing, I took a certain distance from the car in front of me and I proceeded slowly towards the old hairpin, the penultimate corner before the start.

Suddenly, a red light came on the dashboard, low battery signal and the car stopped running but then the flames! Unbelievable, I was covered by the fire that grew more and more, my face burned, so I tried to do the only thing I could, unfasten the seatbelts. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the hook, I couldn’t look down because I had flames in my eyes and so I tried to activate the fire extinguisher, but it was blocked, I couldn’t pull the lever. I raised my arms and remember myself screaming in fear and stamping my feet on the bottom, they were the only things I could do.

Finally the marshals came to help and made me get out of the car, extinguishing the flames which in the meantime have burned my car heavily.

It was a terrible experience, I was stuck in the car while I was burning and I couldn’t get free, luckily nothing similar happened to me anymore.

The first weekend went badly, we rebuilt the car and we got prepared for the second Brand Hatch race.

I went well in free practice and then in qualifying I made a Pole Position!!! Yes, I managed to active my first Pole Position in the most important Championship in the world! Great satisfaction! and also a lot of tension, because the Pole Position was an excellent thing, but the race was more important.

The day of the race, as often happens in England, it rained a lot and the conditions were very difficult; the start was in wet conditions, I had a little wheelspin on the tires at the start and unfortunately I lost the first position, then at the second corner, a car behind hit me on while braking and made me spin off.

The race was over, it didn’t matter! I felt great satisfaction and the desire for redemption; in fact the year 1995 was full of memorable results and experiences.

Race after race I had achieved many podiums, fastest laps and 3 times won the “Ace of the Race” award.

I also participated in many French and European Championship races, winning and going on the podium. The French Championship races were always very exciting and in the summer I won a race in Croix en Ternois, a small circuit in the north of France, while in the European Championship I finished in 3rd place overall.

I would like to mention just a few tracks that I consider to be memorable and on which have driven many formidable champions of the past: Le Mans, Dijon, Magny Cours, Paul Ricard, Pau, Spa Francorchamps, Zandvoort, Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Donington Park and many others.

At the end of the season in October, I competed in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch Circuit. All the strongest drivers from everywhere in the world had gathered at Brand Hatch for this epic appointment and the show has always been guaranteed. In my category there were 60 competitors, divided into semi-finals and then the final race. I won had my semi-final and then I finished 2nd in the final main race, an excellent result and a great end to the season.
